High School Program (Grades 8-12)

The Baltimore Educational Initiative for Teens of Reform Judaism, which we lovingly call, BEIT-RJ, is Baltimore’s Reform Jewish community’s educational and social experience, supplementary high school program for our eighth through twelfth grade students. With the collaboration of the four Reform Temple’s in the community, BEIT-RJ strives to provide a quality program that will ultimately strengthen the Jewish identities of our youth and enhance their participation in the greater Baltimore Jewish community and beyond.

BEIT-RJ is a program of the Baltimore Area Reform Jewish Educational Corporation (BARJE-CO), a partnership of Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, Har Sinai Congregation, Temple Emanuel, and Temple Oheb Shalom. This supplementary high school program enables our young Reform Jewish adults a place where they can learn and socialize with other Reform teens. The primary educational focus is Jewish study, community, and identity building and the staff is comprised of the finest youth educators in Baltimore including clergy and youth directors from each of the Reform congregations.

BEIT-RJ meets on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 PM. An optional dinner is available at 6:00 PM.

You can learn more about our high school and all its programs from their website at: www.beitrj.com.

Madrichim Program

The Madrichim Program is an exciting opportunity available for all Temple Oheb Shalom students who enroll in the supplementary high school program, BEIT-RJ. Once enrolled, all 8-12 graders are eligible to be part of our Religious School work program which gives our graduates an opportunity to stay connected with Temple Oheb Shalom and the Religious School. This program provides our high school enrollees with great work skills in a fun and comfortable environment with their peers and friends and allows them to be a role model to our young Religious School students. Each year in this program, the participants’ responsibilities grow along with their stipend. Approximately 30 High School students participate in the Madrichim program each year.

For more information about the supplementary high school, BEIT-RJ and the Madrichim program, please contact Rabbi Scott Nagel at 443-278-9347 or rabbinagel@templeohebshalom.org.
